Meadow Brush Clearing

May 27, 2017 @ 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Please join the Land Stewards on Saturday May 27 1 to 3 PM as we defend our meadows against forest succession. The town of Acton mows meadows on many of our conservation lands so we can preserve those species which require the open habitat. Unfortunately, year-by-year these meadows are shrinking because the mower is blocked from covering the whole area. This is because young trees grow up along the edge; trees fall into the meadow; and trees have branches too low for the mower to clear. Our work party will cut and clear away these problems. Please bring work gloves, pruning loppers, and bow saws.  Expect some poison ivy and briers. Please contact Joe Holmes (Joseph.Holmes@alum.mit.edu, 978-635-1982) so I can know how many to expect, and let you know where we will be working.
